Matt founded the firm on a single conviction: that first hand experience is a better credential than polished theory.

Over 25 years, Matt has founded and operated businesses across property, infrastructure, IT, and advertising. Many of these ventures ran their course, were merged, or were wound up in the ordinary course of business. That breadth of first hand experience across the full business lifecycle is what makes his counsel practical rather than theoretical.

He has also navigated adversity that would end most people's careers. A court-confirmed campaign of defamation, using stolen documents, led to eleven years of litigation.
Matt chose to fight. He won, securing one of New Zealand's most significant defamation judgments, with the posts found to be false and defamatory.

That experience is not incidental to what Blomfield does. It’s the reason we exist. Matt built this firm specifically to help others navigate complex issues. A lot of our clients call us when they feel like they’ve gone past the point of no return. In our experience, they rarely have. We come at problems differently, because we’ve seen enough to know that the obvious solution is rarely the right one.
